William Dearnley was christened on 20 September 1829 at St. Michael and All Angels, Mottram-in-Longdendale, Cheshire, England. He married Mary Ann Lees on 22 September 1850 at Christ Church, Tintwistle, Cheshire, England. William Dearnley died on 12 June 1874 at Castleton, Rochdale, Lancashire, England, at age 45.
TINTWISTLE
* A township in Mottram-in-Longdendale Parish, Macclesfield Hundred (SK 0297). In 1894 the village of Micklehurst was added to Mossley civil parish in the county of Lancashire. Tintwistle was transferred to the county of Derbyshire in 1974.

The 1871 census lists his birthplace as Carrbrook Cheshire.
William's name was also spelled Dearnley which became the family spelling. He was born in Micklehurst, hamlet in the civil parish of Tintwistle, and grew up there. As one on-line history of Tintwistle states, "Like other villages within Longdendale [Valley], Tintwistle grew with the industrial revolution. There were several mills driven from the small streams which fed the River Etherow and several factories nearby. One of the biggest changes to the area around Tintwistle and Woodhead was the building of the reservoirs which were to supply pure water for Manchester. Woodhead reservoir was the first to be constructed and the work began in August 1848."
William married Mary Ann at Christ Church in Tintwistle in 1850 but the couple was settled in Staleybridge a few miles away when they had their first child the following year. Neither could sign their marriage certificate. In 1851, William and his bride lived with his parents at 2 Carrbrook Lane in Tintwistle. William worked as a woollen stubber. In 1859 he was a foreman at Calico Print Works.
In 1861 the family was living in Tintwistle. William worked as a calico printer, in other words worked in the mill and printed the linen cloth. By 1866 they had moved to Rochdale, not too far away. Rochdale was now at the boom of the Industrial Revolution. In 1871 he worked as a woolen carder and the family lived at 71 Well i'th'Lane in Buersill, Castleton, Rochdale.
William unfortunately died prematurely, having just turned 45. The cause and circumstances remain unknown at this time. However, there was an influenza epidemic in England in 1873 and perhaps William had suffered from this and finally died of repeated illness. Sadly, William died one year after the birth of his son William. He was a beer seller at the time of his death.
Rochdale was actually an old settlement dating back before the Conquest. Its original name was Recedham.
1871 Census states that William was born at Carbrook Cheshire (near Tinttwistle) and the children were born in Carisbrook Cheshire.
William Dearnley also went by the name of Dearnally.
