Aka: Holloway

(Research):Oct 2005

In 1851 census there is a Hannah Dearnally living the Holloways - her parents. There is a granddaughter callled Hannah Holloway there too. Feasible that she had Hannah out of wedlock. married Amos in St Chad in 1850 which is why her name has changed. Wonder where he was. though. FOUND an Amos as lodger at the Jackson family next door but one (Jackson is a licenced brewer - could have been a pub?) But that was his namesake. Hannah's husband was away visiting his parents on the night of the census.

Specuulation but Maiden name is possibly Halloway as an Amos D
married 21 JUL 1850 St Chad, Saddleworth, Yorkshire, England. But I think this unlikely there ae other Amoses who were that side of M/C and it is more likely to be one of them.

But there is a Holloway family in Lord street on the 1871 census

could also be Hannah Garside married Saddleworth 1850

or Ann Knight in Tameside in 1845

In 1901 she is still alive and living with her grandson Joseph William and Annie Gould in Lord St next door to Amos Dearnaley and his family (Sarah, Louie and Alfred).
Hannah Hallowell also went by the name of Hannah Holloway. Hannah Hallowell also went by the name of Hannah Halloway.

(?) Heaward

(?) Heaward married an unknown person. He was born circa 1727.

There was a very high concentration of Mary Heawards in Mottram-In-Longdendale, Cheshire and thus the names of our Mary's parents presently remain unknown. The Heaward surname goes back to at least 29 Nov 1593 in Mottram-In-Longdendale when John Heaward was christened there. Heaward is the old form of Howard and those probably were related to the famous Howards of royal history.

Unfortunately, marriage records for St. Michaels and All Angels are missing from 1755-1775.

Regarding the elligible age for marriage, in 1753 the Hardwicke Marriage Act was passed. The minimum age for a girl was twelve and for a boy fourteen.

In 1606, the manor of Glossop was acquired by the Howard family, whose head is the Duke of Norfolk, the Earl Marshal and the premier peer of England, who also carries the title Lord Howard of Glossop. The first two centuries of their ownership saw the Dukes taking more out of Glossop than they put in, but the twelfth Duke began the development of New Glossop, also known as Howard Town, by constructing a new Town Hall in 1838 and the thirteenth Duke not only built a Market Hall and a railway station but also brought piped water to the town in 1852.

Mary Heaward was born circa 1755 at Mottram-in-Longdendale, Cheshire, England. She was the daughter of (?) Heaward. Mary Heaward married Amos Dearnaley, son of (?) Dearnaley, on 5 April 1779 at Mottram-in-Longdendale, Cheshire, England.

Mary and Amos were married at St. Michael and All Angels church at Mottram-in-Longendale.
Joint wedding with Mary's brother ?

Mention of this church goes back to the first quarter of the thirteenth century. Mottram, itself, is mentioned in the Domesday Book (1086). The earliest church structure would have been wooden later replaced by Norman stonework. Some of that survives in the Norman barrel front, the initials of a Hollingsworth (noble family) over the north door, the decorated capital of the Norman period, and the carved effigy of a knight and his lady in Staveley chapel. The present church structure, however, dates from the end of the fifteenth century. In 1855, there was a major restoration, but the church building as it appears today is the same as it was over 500 years ago.

Family folklore:
Possibly a illegitimate Howarth connection & thence to Lord Howard of Glossop.
