We have his first cousin see William Dearnley.
This William's date's fit well with the 1851 & 1861 censuses and although he & his siblings were baptised in Barnsley, both of his parents came from Featherstone. However, we believe that the other William (1784-; Featherstone) has the edge over this William because the family remained in the area and his stated birthplace in 1861 was Pontefract and not Barnsley.

I suspect that Sarah Dearnaly who witnessed Mary Ann's marriage is the Sarah Dearnaly 1787 who married Joseph Turner in 1808 in South Kir(k)by. The signatures at her own marriage and at her sister Mary Ann's marriage look the same. If she is Mary Ann's sister, then her grandparents were in Featherstone and she may have been born in Barnsley, and South Kirkby is between the two. - JAD
