Her twelve Grandchildren and, twenty great grandchildren were a source of pride and joy. At family gatherings enjoying her fresh garden vegetables and homemade treats. Remaining active well into her eighties Merle was often seen reading or studying celestial phenomena resulting in her having a star named for her. The “Merle Unwin” can be seen in the Western Hemisphere during the month of July. Also of primary interest was her love of nature encompassing all things. Her favourite saying was “Leave It Natural”. While on vacation to the Yukon with Fred, she had the opportunity to live that philosophy.

Rose was born in St. Boniface on August 13, 1916, and resided her entire life in the St. Boniface-St. Vital area. Rose and Art were married on August 20, 1938. She worked for many years at the Hudson's Bay Company. Rose and Art spent many happy summers trailering at West Hawk Lake, and then at the cottage at Lake Brereton. Rose loved company and her home was the scene of many parties and family gatherings. She loved to knit, especially afghans, which her family continues to use.
