In 1820, a Henry Hows was christened in Saxmundham on 15 October. His parents were James and Ann Hows. The only elder Howes in Saxmundham in 1861 was James, and he had a daughter Mary Ann. James was a tinplate worker. This is the only Howes family in Saxmundham and thus he must have been the father of Herbert though I have not yet found any record proving this.
