Clara Darnley Memorial Inscription
from "The Autobiography of Lord Rowallan"
p.142
Canada 1946
"I had an extraordinary reunion at Winnipeg. There was the
welcoming crowd complete with dignitaries, and there in the
forefront was my old nanny whom I had not seen for over forty
years. Nobody had more claim to my attention that day, and I
kept my promise to keep in touch. When she eventually died
I was too committed to cross the Atlantic to attend her funeral,
but, knowing my interest in the old lady, the Vice-Governor
of the Province went to the service. It was an unprecedented
send-off for one who had welcomed me into the world and,
so many years later, welcomed me to Winnipeg. I showed my
gratitude and respect by arranging for a stone to be put on
her resting place. Clara Darnley who loved a little boy."
