DEARNLEY [Providence RI Journal, Tuesday 3 June 2003] East Providence - Frank C. Dearnley, 58, of Hillside Avenue, an assistant fire chief before retiring, died Friday at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. He was the husband of Suzanne L. (Hubbard) Dearnley. Born in Providence, a son of the late Edward James Dearnley 3rd and the late Gladys J. (Foster) Dearnley, he was a lifelong resident of East Providence and a 1963 graduate of East Providence High School. Sworn in as a member of the East Providence Fire Department in November 1970, he retired in 1997, as assistant chief, after 27 years of service. He was a former special officer in the East Providence Police. A Coast Guard veteran, enlisting in 1963, he later had served in the Coast Guard Reserve, achieving the rank of gunner's mate, chief master. He had been an officer in the East Providence Fraternal Order of DeMolay, and a vice president of the Martin Junior High School PTA. Mr. Dearnley was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, where he had served as an acolyte and as senior warden of the vestry. He was a life member of the Massasoit Gun Club, in Riverside. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Frank C. Dearnley of Copake, N.Y; a daughter, Dale L. Dearnley of Glocester; a brother, Edward James Dearnley of Brandon, Fla; and two granddaughters. The funeral will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 81 Warren Ave. Burial will be in Plainville Cemetery, Plainville, Mass.
