In the Name of God Amen I Thomas
Dearnley of No Aldersgate Street in the City of London
Mariner I do hereby make publish and ordain this my
last will and testament in manner following that is to say
I do hereby give my two daughters Mary and Susannah
Dearnley of my property equal in part lying in the Bank
of England in the Navy five per cent annuity the sum of
of eight hundred pounds to receive it in two payments
in one year as the dividends become due namely in July
and January that will be twenty pounds per annum for
each of them to be paid in two payments and be it further
known that if Susannah who is married to Jechoniah
Serjeant should die without having any child as an heir
to the said property it shall go to Mary her sister and
if the said Mary Dearnley should die without having
a child as an heir to the said property I therefore
bequeath this property to go to brother William
Dearnley now living in Doncaster in Yorkshire and to
receive the interest of the said property now being
in the Bank of England until the expiration or his
death and then to go to his children equal share and
share alike to them when the youngest child shall attain
the age of sixteen As for Mrs Davy I bequeath
her the said Sarah Davy to be paid twenty pounds
per annum from the said Navy five per cent annually to
be paid in two payments that is to say when the
dividends become due without any fraud or delay
from any party or whom it may concern these three
parties to draw each of them their own money that is
to say twenty pounds to each of them that making
together sixty pounds per annum this is the interest
of twelve hundred pounds which lies in the Bank
England now due to me Thomas Dearnley Be it
further known that at my decease the ready money
found in my possession to pay my just debts and funeral
expenses this is my present desire and I do hereby revoke all
former wills made by me at any time of any former
date as for Mrs Sarah Davy twenty pounds which
she doth draw at her death it shall go to Mary and
Susannah Dearnley to be equally divided between
them as for my Estate lying in Misson the County of
Nottingham which I sold to George Greenwood there is
fforty pounds upon the Estate due to me Thomas
Dearnley and for the same there is two half yearly
payments made on the thirtieth day of April and the
other on the thirtieth day of October and … at each
payment from George Greenwood as an interest for the
same to be divided to each alike as for my Box of Cloaths
and my family bible and my watch go to my brother William
Dearnley in Doncaster at my death I Thomas Dearnley
testator do hereby appoint William Dearnley and
Jechoniah Serjeant to be trustees to the said will and
testament as for Susannah’s first child being a male child
his name being Thomas Dearnley Serjeant I bequeath
to him twenty five pounds stock from the Navy five per
cent when he shall attain the age of twenty one years
and to have his due when the youngest comes at the
age of sixteen If this said Thomas Dearnley Serjeant should
die before he attains the age of twenty one years for
Susannah his mother to have it and if Susannah should
die or should they both depart this life before the time
appointed for the said Jechoniah Serjeant to have the
said twenty five pounds stock and if the said three parties
should be dead the twenty five pounds stock to go to the
other children belonging to Susannah and Jechoniah Serjeant
Mary Dearnley to have six silver teaspoons and two silver
table spoon at Mrs Davys death I Thomas Dearnley
testator request to my trustees not to touch the said stock
which lies in the Bank of England only to see the three
parties have their interest paid in due time as for
Jechoniah Serjeant to have the interest of twenty five
pounds and William Dearnley to have the interest of
twenty five pounds per annum for their trouble the
trustees and parties are not to touch the stock until
Susannah’s youngest child shall attain the age of sixteen
years and then to be equally divided amongst them if
Susannah should live to see her youngest child attain
the age of sixteen years to take their property into their
own hands to be equally divided then to appoint some
person proper for the youngest childs property until it
arrives at the age of twenty one years and then to have its
part as appointed likewise William Dearnley to receive
twenty five pounds stock from the Navy five percent at the
time of Thomas Dearnley Serjeant receiving his If Mary
Dearnley should be without any child her property
to lie in the Bank until William Dearnleys children
should attain the age of the youngest sixteen years then to be
equally shared among them if Mary Dearnley have
any children not to touch the stock until the youngest
child shall attain the age of sixteen years and if Mrs Sarah
Davy shall have any occasion to sell our table with
a draw a glass and three chairs not to be interrupted the
remainder to be sold at her death the amount to be divided
between Mary and Susannah As for Sarah Dearnley to

for themselves make oath and say that they knew and were
well acquainted with the said deceased for some time before
and at the time of his death and during such their knowledge
and acquaintance with the said deceased have often seen
him write and subscribe his name whereby they have
become well acquainted with his manner and character
of handwriting and subscription and having now carefully
inspected the words Thomas Dearnley set and subscribed
at the end of the paper writing hereto annexed which
paper writing purports to be and contain the last will and
testament of the said deceased beginning thus “In the Name
of God Amen I Thomas Dearnley of No Aldersgate Street
in the City of London Mariner” ending thus “dated 14th day
of July 1812” and subscribed as aforesaid they do verily and in their
conscience believe the said signature to be of the proper
handwriting of the said Thomas Dearnley deceased and the said
Jechoniah Serjeant for himself maketh the oath and saith that
he is a subscribing witness to the said will and that the
obliteration now appearing in the twenty second line of
the first side of the said will and also the word”Davy” now
appearing written over the said obliteration and also the
words “his name” being Thomas Dearnley Serjeant interlined
between the eighteenth and nineteenth line of the second side
of the said will also the word Dearnley interlined between
the fourth and fifth lines of the said second side and the obliteration
of the words “twenty one” in the twenty first line of the third
and last side of the said will and the word “sixteen” written
