A family source believes that this is the John Dearnaley son of Edward D & Eliza Thorns (& married to Charlotte Kirk) who has not been found in the UK after the 1881 census.
If so, there are some unanswered questions. Charlotte's children, who were baptized between 1885 & 1902, are recorded as of 'John & Charlotte Dearnaley'.
Charlotte is recorded as a widow in 1891, and married in 1901. John is not recorded with the family in 1901.

In the 1930 census, respondents are asked for age at first marriage. John said 22 and Florence said 25. This works out as something like 1882 for John - so was he acknowledging his marriage to Charlotte Kirk? - and 1889 for Florence. In 1910 the pair claimed to have been married 20 years ie c.1890. So was Florence ignoring her first marriage? - JAD.
