I, EDWARD WHITTINGTON DARNLEY-SMITH of Landscove Vicarage, Ashburton, in the county of Devon, Clerk in Holy Orders, formerley called Edward Dearnly Smith, but since my infancy called, known and distinguished by the name of Edward Darnley Smith, hereby give notice, that by deed poll, under my hand and seal, dated the 8th day of July, one thousand nine hundred and eighteen, duly executed and attested, and enrolled in the central office of the High Court of Judicature, on the 30th day of July, one thousand nine hundred and eighteen, I did for myself and my issue assume and adopt the Christian names of Edward Whittington and the surname of Darnley-Smith, in lieu of and in substitution for my present Christian names of Edward Dearnly (otherwise Edward Darnley), and my present surname of Smith respectively, and that I shall at all times hereafter in all records, deeds and documents and other writings, and in all actions, suits and proceedings, as well as in all dealings and transactions, matters and things whatsoever, and upon all occasions use and subscribe the said name of Edward Whittington Darnley-Smith as my name in lieu of the said name of Edward Dearnly Smith (otherwise Edward Darnley Smith) ; and I therefore expressly authorize and require all persons whomsoever at all times to designate, describe and address me and my issue by such adopted surname of Darnley-Smith instead of by my former surname of Smith. -- Dated this 9th day of July 1918
