Sudden Death of a Prisoner in Gaol

An inquiry was held at the Coach and Horses here, on the 30th inst, touching the death of a prisoner named James Donnelly, who was found dead in his cell by Chief Warder Moore when he opened the cell that morning about ten minutes to six o clock. It appeared from the evidence of Dr Foster, who made a post mortem examination of the body, that the large vessel which proceeds immediately from the heart at one part was very much dilated, and the walls of it were very thin. The wall at this part had burst, and several pounds of blood had escaped into the cavity of the chest, which was the cause of his death. He (Dr Foster) was under the impression the deceased was labouring under this disease when he was a patient at the County Hospital 2 or 3 years ago. The deceased was comitted by the St Ives Bench on 15th ult. His father resides at Brampton.
Verdict Died from Aneurism of the Aorta.
