Gertrude is remembered as an outstanding woman of great charm and integrity.

In the 1980s the Duggan family dug up what they thought was a butchers stainless steel meat tray in their garden in Leyton. The tray had R.F.H.on the back with G.Dearnley underneath it.
We are assuming that this was Gertrude's, and given to her while she was at the Royal Free Hospital. (as of 2018 the tray was still in use!).
