Eli appears to have 'lost' 8 years sometime between 1851 & 1861 & then stuck with it (unless we are missing another Eli with father Samuel).

After Eli's death in October 1870, his second mother-in-law, Mary Braithwaite, is living next-door to Nancy & James Dearnley (children of George D). This suggests (but unfortunately does not prove) a relationship between the two families. see George Dearnley.
