Mary Clement

b. circa 1650
Her married name was Travess.
Mary Clement married Jonathan Travess, son of Jonathan Travess and Ellen (?).

Note:

Mary was probably descended from the Clement family that held Shadworths manor from 1200 through 1344 in Hartson, Thriplow Hundred just about twelve miles east of Steeple Morden. See Victoria History of the Counties of England, A History of the County of Cambridge and the isle of Ely Vol. VIII (Oxford University Press 1982), 182.

There was a Mary Clements christened 13 Jan 1651 at Thriplow, daughter of John and Elizabeth Clements. Whether this is she or not is impossible to say, though Thriplow is only ten miles east of Steeple Morden. John married Mary Allingham on 23 Jun 1641 at Eltisley which is 10 miles northwest of Thriplow, 12 miles north of Steeple Morden.

Mary Clement died at Steeple Morden, Cambridgeshire, England.

Mary Clement was born circa 1650.

Jonathan Travess died at Steeple Morden, Cambridgeshire, England.

Note:

The Jonathan who was the father of Alice baptized in 1640 is presumably the father of Jonathan, our known ancestor. Thus Jonathan must have been born around 1620. On 1 Aug 1618 there was "Johan" with an abbreviation mark, probably Jonathan, christened in Croydon cum Clopton which is four miles north of Steeple Morden. Said Johan was the son of Thomas and Elizabeth. Most probably this is our Jonathan and thus I have added his parents and siblings. Furthermore, in Croydon cum Clopton records clearly show a Jonathan Travis christened 5 Oct 1606 son of Rafe and Mary, thus "Jonathan Travis" was a Croydon cum Clopton name.

"In 1660 there had been c. 195 adults [living in Steeple Morden] and 206 in 1676, while c. 60 houses were occupied under Charles II." Victoria History of the Counties of England, A History of the County of Cambridge and the isle of Ely Vol. VIII (Oxford University Press 1982), 111.

Docwras Manor was in Foxton which is only six miles northeast of Bassingbourn. Unfortunately, we do not know if or how Mary is descended from this local family.

There was a Marie Ingrie christened 20 Nov 1614 in Melbourn, daughter of William and Milesant. Melbourn is four miles east of Bassingbourn. If this is she, Mary married at age 18 which is quite plausible. But as we have seen, Ingrey was a common surname in the area and a Jane Ingrey is also in our family.

William Ingrie married Milesent Henson on 5 Apr 1608 in Melbourn.
