Obituary Mrs M A Rigg
The large circle of friends of the trio of artist brothers Arthur, Ernest and Alfred Rigg, will learn with deep regret of the death yesterday of their mother Mrs Mary Ann Rigg, at Mr Ernest Rigg's house, Quaker's Garth, Hinderwell. Mrs Rigg's death was the result of an accident, fracture of the thigh, which occurred on June 9th last. The long period of suffering which has intervened would have severely tested the mental and physical strength of any young person, but it has been borne with extraordinary patience and fortitude by this fine old Yorkshire lady. Mrs. Rigg was born on January 25th 1834, and was the eldest daughter of Mr John Higgins, tobacco manufacturere of the Virginia Mills, at Thornbury, Bradford and his wife, nee Emma Darnley, a descendant of th ancient Darnleys, whose most famous member was the hapless Henry Darnley, second husband of Mary Queen of Scots. Many families will be thrown into mourning by Mrs Rigg's death, including relatives in various parts of the country, and she is survived by her sons- Mr Arthur H Rigg, Mr John Albert Rigg, Mr William Darnley Rigg, Mr Ernest H Rigg, and Mr Alfred Rigg. The death of her only daughter, the wife of Mr Thomas Pawson, some years ago, was a lasting grief to the mother. Throughout the happy and restful years spent by Mrs Rigg at Quaker's Garth, she made her son's house a centre of homely and genial hospitality, and endeared herself to all who came into contact with her, and she will be sincerely and truly missed by a multitude of friends of her sons and herself. Mrs Rigg's funeral will leave the Bradford Midland Railway Station about half-past one o'clock to-morrow for Undercliffe Cemetery, where the interment in the family vault will take place.
