Nicholas Scott was eldest son of Richard Scott, of Barnes Hall, in this parish.—
In his will, dated 30 July, 1561, he describes himself as
" Nicholas Scotte, of Barnes Hall," in the parish of Ecclesfield.—"
And forasmuch as the houre of deathe is uncertayne to every lyvying creature, and willinglie I wold wishe that suche vile corruptible goods, and possessions, as almyghtye God hathe lent me here, in this wretched world, myght be dispossessed to the honor and glorie of hym" &c.—
To be buried in the parish Church Ecclesfield—

Ecclesfield.—My goods to be divided into 3 parts—one part to Richard Scott my son—one part to Mary Scott my
daughter towards her education and the third part to Isabel Scott my lovinge wife.—And concerning Barnes Hall &c.
which is now in the holding arid tenure of Emmott Dernelly " my dearlie beloved mother," my wife, on the death of
my mother, to have one third part and my son Richard Scott the remaining two thirds.—Nicholas Scott my late

—Emmott Dernelley his wife mentions in her will dated 9 Oct., 1592 [vide note 180] my son Nicholas Shirecliffe ; and Thomas Scott above mentions Nicholas Shirecliffe my brother.
