An Ancestry Public tree has this as 17 Apr 1857 and is confirmed as James Darnley & Ann Bodman in Holytown R.D. 1857.
The birth of two Darnley children before marriage would have been unusual.
Having said this, Scottish practices were different from England regarding the naming of illegitimate children.

It does leave open the possibility that Ann was not the mother of Jeanette & James Patterson D. Jr and we are missing an earlier marriage.
