"Stoning a Policeman. Richard Bashford (23) and Frederick Bashford(17) of Thomas Street Sparkbrook and Ewan Ellis (18) of Middleton Hall Road, King's Heath were charged with being drunk, disorderly and assaulting a policeman. Police Constable Wainwright saw the prisoners creating a disturbance in Alcester Lanes End on Wednesday. He endeavoured to quieten them and they commenced throwing stones. Witness arrested the elder Bashford and was then stoned by the others.
Richard Bashford was fined 10s and costs,or fourteen days, and the others were each sent to gaol for twenty one days with hard labour."
