Edward was a member of Parliament in 1891 to 1894. He was elected to represent Balmain in 1891 the first year the Labor League members entered parliament.

His profile reads : on leaving school aged eleven, he worked in the jewellery trade for a few years and then became a plasterer.
He joined the National Association of Operative Plasterers in 1879.
Soon after his arrival in Australia he became the President of the NSW Plasterer's society which he represented on the Trades and Labour Council in 1891.
He was said to have done the plaster work ceilings on the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney . The hospital had its first patient in 1882.
