Harold Ambler Dearnaley

ID# 9541, b. 7 October 1892, d. 13 August 1968
Note:

Harold was an emotional casuality of WW1 after surviving most of the war as an ammo truck driver between the trenches on triple rations of spirits but seeing many pals blown to smithereens. After the war his father, Abel, helped him into a job as Rolls Royce salesman in Derby and then into a small garage back in Buxton. Great grandpa Abel was also a no-doubt blustering Methodist lay preacher. Despite his emotional difficulties from the war, grandpa Harold was a lovely old guy, on whom my English Rose grandma Bessie Bailey took pity, although she sometimes claims to have regretted breaking off her engagement to the vicar in her native Hampshire !

This from Ancestry.com (dayledebry):
"I picked up an old family bible (mid 1800's) at an estate sale for $5.00 - they were going to throw it away if it wasn't purchased - would be willing to send it to a relative of the people listed, for the postage only. Large, leather bound, in very poor condition, but the family marriage page is in good condition - lists John and Lizzie DEARNALEY married Dec. 25th 1850; Mrs. Lizzie Dearnaley died Dec. 11, 1910 in Los Angeles at Hollenbeck Home, buried at Evergreen Cemetery L.A. (California). Leather nameplate inside has Mr. & Mrs. J. DEARNLY."

The above marriage date seems incorrect as Lizzie would only be 14 years old. John Dearnaley & Betty Ellis married 25 Dec 1860, I am assuming that this is the same pair.
Unfortunately, The bible is no longer available. - MED
