Something odd here:
It seems strange that Ruth (Letty Ruth Ann Eliza) gave her mother's name as Susan.
As Ruth's mother (Elizabeth Howard) died a year after Ruth's birth, perhaps
she was raised by another Susan (?). A third marriage for George Lawrence(?)

Also, Ruth gives her birthplace as Devonshire England and her age is off by six years.

re: Joseph Howard / Mary [Matthews?]
There are a number of online trees (FamilySearch & Ancestry) that show two different origins for the Joseph Howard who married Mary [Matthews?].

1. A number of FamilySearch trees show him as the son of James Howard & Susanna Dix. This Joseph was baptized 7 Apr 1765 in Litlington.
see Joseph Howard

2. Other trees (including one on Ancestry) show Joseph as the son of William Howard & Mary [Cornish?]. This Joseph was baptized 7 Sep 1783 in Litlington.
This William & Mary are probably:
William Howard & Mary Cornish; married 1777 at Litlington.
William may be the son of Daniel Howard & Alice (bapt. 14 Mar 1756; Conington, Cambridgeshire) - although Conington is 15 miles north of Litlington.

The ages of the children suggest that the second option is the most likely. Also Joseph lived with his brother George in 1851 & 1861 confirming the family connection.
The second is the one we have gone with here. - MED.
