Birth:
Joseph Dearnaley was born in 1800 at Hayfield, Glossop, Derbyshire, England,
 .
Joseph Dearnaley was the son of Samuel Dearnaley and Martha Bowden.
We are assuming that Joseph and Mary Sykes were unmarried but Mary Sykes history remains a mystery.
from a family member:
Mary Dearnley & Benjamin Grayson's marriage certificate reads: Mary Dearnaley was the daughter of Joseph Dearnaley [farmer] Charlesworth reg district Hayfield 1853. Mary's mother was a Mary Sykes.*
It is worth noting that Joseph's brother William was married to Ann Sykes. They are also shown with a daughter Mary baptized in 1834. Only one baptismal record has been found for a Mary D. (and one set of census records). We have Ann's burial at Woodhead in 1835, but no burial of a daughter.
* Mary Sykes does not appear on the copy of Mary & Benjamin's marriage certificate that is on FamilySearch. I have not yet found any other supporting evidence for 'Mary' Sykes being Mary's mother. - MED.
