At the sittings of the Geelong County Court held before Judge Rogers yesterday a middle-aged woman named Mrs. Guy was awarded £80 damages for an assault. She had been a housekeeper in the employment of a small farmer at Cowie's Creek, named John Dearnley, and the assault, which was of a very brutal nature, arose without any reasonable provocation. Dearnley and his housekeeper had been visiting Geelong on a Sunday afternoon, and the latter called on the landlady of the Ocean Child Hotel, with whom she was acquainted. Dearnley wished her to go home with him, and as she did not immediately comply, he threw her down and kicked her, breaking two of her ribs and spraining her thumb. She proceeded against him for £150, and was awarded the amount stated. The other cases were of no public interest.
