Jonathan Dearnley

ID# 9902, b. 15 February 1809
Jonathan Dearnley was also recorded as Jon Denally.
He was also recorded as Abraham Dearnley - occupation: Miller.
He was also recorded as Jonathan Dearnely.
He was also recorded as Dearnaley - (spelling not found but added for indexing.)

Note:

Some confusion here.
Abraham is shown as Firth's father at Firth's 1868 marriage. The only baptism that fits shows Jonathan & Mary as his parents.
Son (?) Firth appears to have lived with various family members in 1841 & 1851 & may have fought in the East Indies during the 1861 census.

Note:

Same as Jonathan, father of John ?
See Jonathan Dearnley
This would make Firth & John half-brothers & may explain their joint service record.

Birth:
Jonathan Dearnley was born on 15 February 1809 at Lee Side, Scholes, Yorkshire.

Baptism:
Jonathan Dearnley was baptised in April 1809 at Wesleyan, Holmfirth, Kirkburton, Yorkshire,

No. 5 Sarah D. of Jos: Denelly of Lee Side near Scholes, by Hanh: D of Ann Robert, B. Jany: 31st, C
Baptism dates are missing in right-hand margin, but appears to be mid-April 1809
Shown as Holy Trinity, Holmfirth baptisms in Ancestry (unverified by original documents.)

Jonathan Dearnley was the son of Jonas Dearnelley and Grace Taylor.

Jonathan Dearnley married Mary Schofield on 2 January 1832 at All Hallows, Almondbury, Yorkshire,
'Jonathan Dearnley of this Parish Bachelor and Mary Schofield of this Parish were married in this Church by Banns.'

Witnesses: James Worthead(?) & James Schofield

Indexed as Holme-Bridge in FamilySearch, but Holmbridge church was built 1839-40.

Mary Jane Robinson 34 Spinster, --- res: Worsbro Dale fa: John Robinson, Weaver

Witnesses: William Bean & Ellen Robinson

I believe that Firth's father's entry is incorrect (although clear), however there is a possibility that there was another Firth Dearnley born at the same time who married Mary Jane. If so, we have not found him. The only Abraham Dearnley we have is a 4th cousin in Glossop - see Abraham Dearnaley - MED

Another suggestion is that Firth could have been a son of, say, Jonathan's sister & that Jonathan & Mary passed him off as their own to save embarrassment.
