There were 2 sons of John and Alice, namely John c. 1683 and Gilbert 1684.  Gilbert is known to known to have been named after his maternal grandfather, so John 1683 may well have been named after his paternal grandfather.  This indicates that his father was John Darnelley 1647 (burial John Darnelly senior 11 Nov 1721?), son of John Darneley 1614 and Susan Quicke, who is also the nearest John agewise to John c.1661. - JAD.
