Wakefield Manorial Rolls V 18 1658-9
Draft roll for 20 Oct 1658, pains, p106:
Austonley
No man to go over one close called Wheat [illegible] in the occupation oh Roger Dearnile, every default 12d
27 Apr 1659
Oliver Roberts, tenant, said on oath that Richard Firth of Boothhouse and Susan his wife (she examined separately) on 1 Nov 1658 surrendered by his hands the whole messuage called Boothhouse and all his Copyhold land; belonging to the messuage; 20 acres of land belonging to the messuage; eleven whole closes of land also belonging to it called the Greatbothome, the Flats. the Overrideinge, the Nether Rideinge, the Longinge, the Round Inge, the Wheatbothome, the Netherfeild, the Shroggs, the Crofte; allthe mansion house and all other houses, barns, laiths, mistals, stables, buildings, cottages, folds, gardens, orchards, backsides, tofts, crofts, closes, parcels of land, hereditaments, waters, ways, springs, easements, profits, privileges, Copys, surrenders, rents, reversions and reservations whatsoever [was someone being paid per word?] held by copy of court roll in Austonley and Overthwonge and occupied by Roger Firth, Roger Dearneley and Joseph Broadhead. Surrendered and granted to the use of Henry Jackson of Mealhill yeoman, and Elizabeth Jackson his daughter and their heirs. Lord's rent 7s. 6d. Compounded for by Luke Firth. Fine 22s. 6d.
note: The reason Upperthong is included with Austonley is that the township boundary cuts across this area.
As it happens Long and Round Ing, Upper and Lower Flatt and the Shroggs are part of the land in my 3xggfather John Goddard's will of 1814. By that time there was a farm house on Long Ing which is where he lived.

Unless there were two Roger Dearnleys, Roger was living in Austonley in 1664 when he was sworn man in the manorial court. This would be consistent with the chapel of son John's baptism being Holmfirth.

This is on p46 where the page numbers being part of the transcription the entirety of which is transcribed as 1625. But the p45 is 1677 & p47 is 1657. Either the pages are bound out of order or else there's something very wrong with the transcription.

re: Baptism of son Samuel.
The 1658 William is more likely to be a resident of Emley but it's not unknown, at least in later centuries that first children were bapt. in the mother's parish; I suspect the explanation could be that the mother went to stay with her mother for the first birth.
